Today is planned for those who follow the Lord of the Rings. Hobbiton is only 45 minutes away from Nicara Lodge. The tour takes 2.5 hours to see Bagend and Bilboe’s house, the party tree and many other interesting sights for those Tolkein fans.
The drive to Matamata over the scenic Mamaku Ranges is a pleasant drive. After the tour we recommend you return to Nicara via the country township of Tirau, a great place for lunch and some amazing buildings constructed out of corrugated iron. Some of the leading antique shops in New Zealand are located in Tirau.
