You could return to Nicara Lodge via Taupo.
Taupo is more than the largest lake in Austalasia. It boasts Tongariro World Heritage National Park, two ski areas, majestic Mount Ruapehu, beautiful countryside and a range of action activities. Lake Taupo District can be found at just over an hour’s drive away from Nicara Lakeside Lodge, making it an ideal day excursion. See the itinerary on this great day out.
And just before you get to the city centre, you’ll find the turn off to the thundering Huka Falls, New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction.
An hour’s drive the other way, you will find one of New Zealand’s most popular beaches: Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty. Here you can choose from water adventures like rafting, kayaking, dolphin encounters, parasailing and jetboating. There’s also skydiving, scenic flights, blokarting (a locally-invented land sailor), golf and a variety of gardens and museums to peruse. Lunch at Mills Reef Winery in Tauranga is highly recommended.
