Much more to see and do

Rotorua is centrally located in the North Island, making Nicara Lakeside Lodge a perfect luxury base for you to further discover many fascinating New Zealand attractions and destinations. We are happy to advise you on the array of choices, and help you find the trip or tour that is right for you. A few suggestions:

An interesting full day excursion is a visit to the Waitomo Caves and the famous glow worms. There are a number of interesting caves to visit. It’s a 1.5 hours easy and picturesque drive from Rotorua via Putararu and Kihikihi. www.waitomocaves.co.nz

For thrill seekers, Black Water Rafting underground is something that will definitely appeal, see www.waitomo.com. For even more action and adventure, discover the Lost World and go abseiling with Waitomo Adventures: www.waitomo.co.nz

For those preferring above ground adventure the Big Red quad bike safari is a must. It’s challenging and exciting: www.waitomobigred.co.nz. You could return to Ngongotaha via Taupo.

Taupo is more than the largest lake in Austalasia. It boasts Tongariro World Heritage National Park, two ski areas, majestic Mount Ruapehu, beautiful countryside and a range of action activities. Lake Taupo District can be found at just over an hour’s drive away from Nicara Lakeside Lodge, making it an ideal day excursion. See the itinerary on this great day out.

And just before you get to the city centre, you’ll find the turn off to the thundering Huka Falls, New Zealand’s most visited natural attraction.

An hour’s drive the other way, you will find one of New Zealand’s most popular beaches: Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty. Here you can choose from water adventures like rafting, kayaking, dolphin encounters, parasailing and jetboating. There’s also skydiving, scenic flights, blokarting (a locally-invented land sailor), golf and a variety of gardens and museums to peruse.
