Having seen something of the thermal and cultural side of Rotorua, today we are suggesting some really different activities. After breakfast we bring in the floatplane to Nicara Lodge's private jetty and enjoy a 30 minute sightseeing flight which will pass over Mt Tarawera where you will clearly see the devastation of the 1886 eruption. There are longer flights available up to 2 - 3 hours all with their own points of interest. For the more adventurous why not take a helicopter out to White Island, an active volcano 43km off the coast, an hour s flight. It’s awesome. An alternative is the helicopter that will actually land you on Mt Tarawera on your return to Rotorua.
Don’t like flying? Well there is the excitement of a jet boat excursion on the Lake that you may just prefer. Again leaving from the Nicara jetty (subject to numbers). It is now possible to do a day excursion from Rotorua to White island by boat from Whakatane. Pick up at Nicara 7.30am allow about 9 hours. This is a unique day out - lunch provided.
No visit to Rotorua is complete without a visit to the Agrodome and its world famous sheep show. Show time is 0930, 1100 and 1430 daily. Here the many breed of sheep which are found in New Zealand's on show and “perform” for visitors. You will witness sheep shearing, sheep dogs at work and play, milking a cow and many other interesting and entertaining aspects of the agricultural industry. After the sheep show we recommend the Farm Tour through the Agrodome’s own land, deer, pig, llama, beef and sheep farming plus a taste of our horticultural industry, kiwi fruit, grape, olives, citrus. The full commentary and the opportunity to hand feed some of the animals makes this a very interesting and educational experience. Departures are in conjunction with the Sheep Show 1040, 1210,1330 and 1540 daily.
At the Agrodome Park you will also find the Zorb, and Agroventures with the Bungy, Agrojet, Swoop, Freefall xtreme and Shweeb. This is adventure to the max and suitable for all ages.
With its café and other displays like the Woollen Mill and Shearing Shed you can easily spend the whole afternoon in and around the Agrodome complex.
