The grounds and gardens at Nicara Lakeside Lodge are open. We have never liked manicured lawns so these have been left natural with bumps and character. Large sweeping Spanish stone steps go from the central deck down to the lawn which leads to the jetty and lakeside.
Stonework, decking, a large patio area, outside furniture all allow plenty of space for privacy and relaxation. Roses, fuchsia, native ferns, herbs, hydrangeas, dahlia, sweet pea, pansies, daffodils, tulips all (depending on the season) adorn the whole area adding vibrant colours to an already colourful garden.
Kayaks are available complimentary for Lodge guests. Located close to 3 streams within reasonably easy paddling distance, the Awahou, Waiteti or Ngongotaha Streams offer some really good excursions. From the jetty and grounds you can watch the local waterfowl; swans (black), different breeds of ducks, white faced herons, shags (cormorants) to name a few. One of the most picturesque walks is along the Hamurana Stream to the spring which is discharging pure water at 4.5 million litres per hour.
From the jetty you can be picked up by floatplane for a really exciting unique flightseeing experience.
Similarly the jet boat can pick you up for an excursion to another lake with a hot swim in natural mineral waters before returning to Nicara Lodge.
You can take a helicopter to just about anywhere. Mt Tarawera, the active volcano or White Island, around the Lakes or anywhere further afield.
Finally fishing guides can pick you up at the jetty and take you trolling on Lake Rotorua which is open all year round.
